but go forth and multiply, said god and the mormons- i can, said the lesbian, too
for the purposes of the exercise
I am dirt
I am dark and soft and receptive
to seeds
I am that loamy word I loathe-
fecund, like a plum tree
in blossom, about to swell
all over
and if we were to lie down
right now, I would burst
into bloom - if you so much
as came
close to me I will be
fruitful and multiply
like flies, I am a
pomegranate
on the inside
all those ruby
red arils full of
juice but so hard
to crack, this
forbidden
fruit.

Not sold on the title yet, but I needed to work the narrative context in there somewhere :) A true story.
ReplyDeleteI really like the title actually... although maybe it doesn't have to be a title (it's certainly long enough). It could be a fore-note, and you could title it differently? I think those lines make it much more interesting.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the Kevin in me giggled at "...if you so much/as came/close to me..." Haha came. Yup, I am secretly becoming Kevin.
Bwahaha! I was going for that! Uh oh...does that mean I am secretly turning into Kevin too? It's contagious! Keep away! I'm going to catch the Kevin!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you liked the pseudo-title; it was a pretty fun conversation to have. Too bad Mormons aren't more interested in alternative fertility ;)
